The shaft was narrow and dark. The floors were a pattern of rough-hewn stone, the walls lined with torches withered and rotting. The air, stale and dry, was thick with a silence rhythmically interrupted by even footsteps. They echoed off the walls, traveling down into a darkness so thick even Idris's eyes could not penetrate it. 

He walked with purpose, his footfalls displacing piles of dust that had remained otherwise undisturbed for centuries. 

The entrance to the corridor spit him out into the wood as quietly as a bat into the night. He brushed the dust off his carefully tailored sleeves. His dark suit was edged in bold lines of green, his sleeve cuffs ringed in gold. 

Tomorrow the dead would rise. 

And no one was the wiser.
