Can I Send Dice Gifts to People in Prison?

Yes, you can send a gift of dice to people in prison. Whether or not that gift is accepted, however, depends on what you're sending and to which prison. To send a gift to someone in prison, you will need:

  • The inmate's name
  • The inmate's ID number (IDOC)
  • The name of the prison
  • The prison's P.O. box/address

Don't forget that IDOC! Some prisons may return your package if this is not included (Why? Well, how else are they supposed to know which Michael Smith the package is for?).

Getting some of this information may require contacting the prison, which is a good thing to do in general. Letting the prison know you're sending something may be required, and you can inquire about what gifts are and are not acceptable. Dice happen to be acceptable. To our knowledge, they are accepted even in some maximum security prisons.

If you wish to send a package directly to an inmate from a business, the business may first need to be cleared by the prison. As it happens, prisons do not need to tell businesses that they are being reviewed, or that they have been greenlit or blacklisted. Businesses that have been greenlit will simply start receiving orders for inmates. Ask me how I know.
